Licensed GYROTONIC® Method Trainer

Catherine Makk is a licensed instructor in the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. Derived from the words gyro (spiral or circle) and tonic (to tone or invigorate), GYROTONIC® is an exercise method designed to enhance the body’s range of motion, coordination, and stamina. Conceived from the key principles of yoga, martial arts, gymnastics, and ballet, the multi-directional and three-dimensional exercises are performed on specialized equipment designed around the human body or, in the GYROKINESIS® practice, on a mat and chair.
From the initial session, Catherine works with clients to gradually achieve spinal decompression, healthier joint function and improved circulation. Ultimately, her goal is to create an enhanced awareness of the position and movement of the body–proprioception–so that clients are better able to move with confidence and grace through every walk of life.
A student of dance and bodywork for more than thirty years, Catherine has been a Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis practitioner and instructor of the for nearly a decade. She is certified in both the GYROTONIC® and the GYROKINESIS® Methods, and participates annually in continuing education and professional development courses across the country and around the globe. She has been a part of the Spyre Center community since July 2025.
When not in the studio, Catherine lives in the Garden District with her teenage daughter and two extremely flexible cats. She sits on the boards of Louise S. McGehee School and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art; she enjoys the benefits of Gyrotonic movement on the tennis court and in recreational dance classes.
